Process Art – Painting with Pom Poms

The Materials:

  • Art Paper (any type)
  • Pom Poms
  • Acrylic Paints
  • Paper Plate
  • Optional: Clothes Pins

The Process

Demonstrate how to clip one pom pom into a clothes pins shown in the example. The clothes pins are optional but these will make the painting easier and less messy especially when using small pom poms. The child can choose the colors she would like and pour the colors onto the paper plate pallet. Dip the pom poms into the paint and use them to create a masterpiece. The pom poms can be used to create a stamping effect. They can also be used to paint just as you would a paintbrush. Using the concepts of Reggio Emilia, let the child experiment and create different methods of using the materials

Extensions:

Experiment with multiple sizes of pom poms to create different effects. Other possibilities include  presenting other materials such as cotton swabs or cotton balls.
