Supplies:

• 4 cups flour
• ½ cup baby oil

Soft cloud sand is an absolute favorite! It is fun, moldable, and smells great. To create cloud sand, simply mix the flour and the baby oil with your hands, until it is soft and moldable. Children enjoy the feel of the mix and watching the “sand” come together; if you are able to, include them in the process of creating the cloud sand. If you use regular baby oil it will have the wonderful scent of that product. Another option is to use lavender scented baby oil for a relaxing fragrance. If you use unscented baby oil, you can enhance the scent in many different ways using either essential oils or baking extracts.

This base will last for an extended period of time. After the children are through playing with the “sand,” just seal up the box and keep it for another day. If you have many children using the dough, you may want to replace it more often.

The example uses cloud toys for playing in the sand. There are many other ways to use the sand including adding cups, spoons, scooping materials, and molds for creative fun.
