Sensory Experiences – Creating a Halloween Themed Sensory Tub

Halloween is one of the most anticipated holidays for many children. They love the fun of dressing up and collecting candy. There are many different ways to create a Halloween sensory box. This sensory tub focuses on the haunted house and spooky eyeballs, along with a black and orange color scheme. Colorful candy would make a very fun sensory tub as well; however, at this time of year when everything seems to revolve around sweets and candy it is nice to have a sensory bin which focuses on other aspects of the holiday.

Supplies:

  • dry black beans
  • orange colored lentils
  • eyeballs (candy)
  • haunted house
  • candy pumpkins
  • mini gourds

Create the base of black beans and sprinkle the colored lentils across the top. The lentils are much smaller, and easily sink to the bottom of the beans. This could create another opportunity to explore the sensory bin and utilize fine motor skills in the experience, by searching out the tiny lentils that sink to the bottom. The other items are placed in the tub and children can imagine, design, and play in any way they would like to experience the tub. The haunted house box was found at a dollar store and adds an additional element as children can include putting things in and taking them out as part of the process.
